Who we are
Scottish Healthcare Professionals Supporting Assisted Dying is a group of healthcare professionals who support greater choice and autonomy for individuals at the end of life.
We believe that terminally ill people should have the right to access their preferred treatment options, within the legal framework.
Everyone has the right to be provided with comprehensive, high-quality and accessible care. This should be no different for those facing an advanced terminal illness.
Patients’ options and wishes should be discussed and supported, to ensure they can make informed decisions about their care. Any genuine choice, including assisted dying, should be respected.
Our group commits to supporting the introduction of assisted dying for terminally ill people in Scotland, if legalised, and we will support a change in the law through public advocacy and workshops with Scottish healthcare professionals.
Any change in the law must also be accompanied by training and guidelines to support practitioners willing to participate in the provision of assisted dying. We are committed to supporting the development of rigorous educational and professional standards to make this happen.
